Lithuanian Cancer Patient Coalition (POLA) is one of the biggest non-governmental umbrella organizations in Lithuania, uniting almost 30 patient organizations and over 11 000 cancer patients. The organization is engaged in the area of oncology representing and defending the interests of cancer patients at a national and public level, offering a range of social services such as legal and psychological advice, assessment of possible treatment alternatives, as well as a number of discounts for partners’ products and services. An idea to gather Lithuanian cancer patient organizations was born in 2009, aiming that cancer patients get a more effective medical treatment and better psychological, emotional and social support as well as all the needed information. During these years POLA has become one the best recognized patient organizations around the country, representing cancer patients’ interests both at political and public level. What do we do? We educate society on cancer prevention; Teach cancer patients to participate actively in the treatment of their illness; Organize free seminars, training, conferences, sessions of art therapy etc.; Gather a community of cancer patients and survivors, giving a POLA card, offering a number of partners’ discounts and free services; Publish information on actual topics for cancer patients; Strengthen patient organizations; Provide more opportunities for cancer patients.
